A Utah mother who was raising funds for her own funeral has passed away, according to her family

A Utah single mom with two little kids who was trying to raise money for her own funeral after being told she had cancer has died, her family says.

Erika Diarte-Carr, 33, was told in May 2022 that she had a rare type of cancer called stage 4 small cell lung carcinoma.

Her doctor told her that she had several cancers that had spread to other parts of her body, including her bones.

After being diagnosed, Diarte-Carr set up a GoFundMe account with the simple goal of raising $5,000. The fund has grown to more than $1.17 million as of October 14.

It was said to Diarte-Carr in September that she only had three months to live. Angelique Rivera, her cousin, wrote on Facebook on Saturday that Diarte-Carr had died.

“It breaks my heart to say that this is the last story I will tell my cousin Erika.” “She has crossed over to be with her mother Sylvia, brother JJ, and uncles Chava and Loui,” Rivera wrote.

“She fought a long battle.” She was strong and stayed with her babies for as long as she could. For all your help, love, and thoughts, I know she was very grateful.
