A high school football player died during practice in Bloomfield

Bloomfield, Connecticut — Bloomfield officials say a student-athlete died after collapsing during football practice.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the unexpected passing of one of our community’s beloved children,” stated the interim superintendent and town manager of Bloomfield in a joint statement.

The student-athlete started his freshman year at Bloomfield High School and then transferred to Manchester High School.

The unnamed student was a member of the Bloomfield Junior Warhawk Football Team and fell during practice on November 27. “He was unable to be revived despite attempts by staff and emergency medical personnel,” according to local officials.

During this difficult time, town officials encourage residents to seek assistance from one another. “As we face this tremendous loss together, we want to underline the significance of supporting one another. We urge all students, faculty, and families to ask for help and rely on one another for support and strength.”

Counseling services will be offered at both Bloomfield High School and Carmen Arace Middle School.

Town officials are working with the family to properly commemorate the student’s life and ask that the public respect the family’s privacy as they deal with their loss.
