A Jasper County man suspected of severely abusing a lady in Springfield was arrested after a standoff in Joplin and is being held in Greene County Jail today.
Rajab D. Jones is charged with kidnapping, unauthorized use of a weapon, and five counts of domestic abuse against a Springfield woman with whom he desired a relationship, according to court filings.
A probable cause statement states that when the woman refused him, he “became enraged and began assaulting (the victim).”
The paper details the woman’s serious injuries as a result of Jones’ continuous punches and threats.
She told detectives she persuaded him to take her to the hospital by promising not to mention that he had caused her injuries, but police were called after she arrived at Mercy Hospital.
Following the attack on Wednesday (10/23/24), Jones returned to Joplin, where officers executed a warrant on Friday at a house in the 700 block of S. Chestnut Ave.
Officers said the subject refused to come out, so they brought in the SWAT team, who apprehended the man without incident.
He was booked into Greene County Jail on Monday.
