More than 70 million people who get Social Security are waiting for the official word on the new rise for 2025. The Social Security Administration says that the new raise check will be sent in January, which is when Social Security payments are normally sent in 2025.
However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics should first announce the official cost of living adjustment (COLA) raise next month before we can know for sure how much each person will get paid.
Some estimates from the Senior Citizens League (TSCL) say the COLA raise could be between 2.73 and 3.2%, but we don’t have the exact number yet. First increased check from Social Security in January 2025
The federal office is in charge of making five sets of payments every month. The first and third days of every month are when people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) get their first two checks.
Then, on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month, SSA gives RSDI recipients three more rounds of payments based on their date of birth. As per the Social Security payment schedule, SSI recipients will not get their benefits on January 1st because it is a government holiday. Instead, they will get them on December 31st.
The Social Security Administration will move the payment to Friday, January 31st, though, since February 1st is a holiday. Folks who get SSI will get a payment early from February, even though they won’t get their monthly benefits in January.
Aside from this small change to the normal schedule, people who applied for benefits before May 1997 will still get their regular payments on the third of every month. This includes retirees, survivors, and disabled people. People who applied after that date will get their Social Security payments at different times depending on when they were born.

How much money will the Social Security Administration pay to all its beneficiaries in 2025?
Some of the things that affect a person’s Social Security payments are their age, their work history, the amount of money they contributed while they were working, and their type of disability, especially if they are trying to apply for the SSDI program.
Once a person is eligible for the program, the SSA will figure out how much they will get each month based on their specific situation. The benefit’s value will change every year, though, because the cost of living adjustment (COLA) goes up every year. This helps recipients keep up with inflation.
