As Christmas gets closer, the Department of Social Protection has announced big changes to when people will get their social aid payments.
New pay dates in Ireland
- Payments for 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20 December will remain unchanged.
- Payments originally scheduled for 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27 December will be processed earlier, starting the week of 16 December.
It has been agreed by the Department that payments due on January 1 will be made on December 31. This makes sure you have money saved up before the New Year.
The Department of Social Protection has made it clear: “If you get a weekly social welfare payment, you can expect to get both your regular payment and an advance payment for the following week starting on Monday, December 16.”
No matter if you get your payment at the post office, by check, or straight into your bank account, this schedule still applies. At this busy time of year, you can be sure that your payments are being handled with the greatest care.
A big change was recently made by the Department to Jobseeker’s Allowance and Jobseeker’s Benefit. If you’re claiming off-the-cuff and have been given dockets ahead of time, you’ll get two payments for Jobseeker’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Benefit for the weeks ending December 17th and 24th. On December 20, these amounts will be sent to your bank accounts.
Payment Schedule Adjustments
Normal payment plans will start up again on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, for the week ending December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025. For people who get Illness Benefit, don’t forget to keep sending in your “Certificate of Incapacity for Work” over the Christmas and New Year time.
Social Welfare News: Budget 2025
In other news about social benefits, Budget 2025 has added a total of 10 one-time payments. The first cash boost of this kind was sent to more than 1.4 million people last month. It was the October double payment.
Upcoming Cost of Living Supports
This week, starting November 4th, will bring the disbursement of four cost of living supports:
- €400 Working Family Payment
- €400 Disability Support Grant
- €300 lump sum payment for households receiving the Fuel Allowance
These financial aids aim to alleviate the financial pressures many are facing, providing timely support as the year comes to a close.
