10-month-old Ozarks infant released from hospital after authorities say mom's boyfriend admitted to bear hugging the child

A 10-month-old kid from Newton County has been released from the hospital after struggling for his life after his mother’s boyfriend admitted to bear-hugging him, according to police.

Baby Waylon, ten months old, only returned home from the hospital last Thursday, but family members say the injuries he sustained will have a long-term impact on his life.

“He has basically been reset to a newborn,” explained Tyler Burbridge, Waylon’s father.

The infant spent nearly a month and a half in critical condition at a Kansas City hospital.

In September, investigators believe 10-month-old Waylon was placed in a baby jumper by his mother, who stepped away to use the restroom. According to reports, her boyfriend at the time, Jordan Boggess, scooped up Waylon and flung him into the air, but missed on the second attempt.

“He basically killed my son. He took away my son’s future. “You don’t throw a baby in the air,” said Waylon’s father.

Boggess revealed to authorities that he hugged Waylon tightly until he stopped weeping. Boggess is accused of child abuse. However, family members claim that such incidents permanently impacted Waylon’s life.

His father says, “As far as we know, he can’t see. He can’t sit up. He can scarcely lift his head. He will need extensive physical treatment.”

Waylon’s mother issued the following statement:

“Waylon was discharged from the hospital on October 24th he went home with his mom. Our main focus is on Waylon on him recovering and on him striving to get stronger!”

Waylon’s family members are standing together to raise awareness about child abuse.

“My son can’t even speak for himself. Not only do I speak for him, but so does my family and everyone else who is fighting for him.

Boggess is scheduled to appear in court at 11 a.m. on December 13 at the Newton County Courthouse in Missouri.
