An illegal migrant who failed to appear for his immigration court after being released at the border has been detained for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl on Long Island, according to authorities.
Wilson Castillo Diaz, 26, is suspected of assaulting the young girl on October 16, according to Nassau County police.
Details about the alleged rape, including Diaz’s relationship with the girl and where it occurred, were not immediately known.
Following the alleged incident, the child was brought to a local hospital for medical evaluation, according to authorities.
Diaz, who lived in Westbury, crossed illegally into the United States near Rio Grande, Texas, in April 2014, according to police.
He was detained by US border officers but released after being served with a notice to appear before an immigration judge.
Diaz then failed to attend for his immigration court case, according to officers.
Police said Immigration and Customs Enforcement had already been alerted of the suspect’s recent arrest, but did not specify which nation he was originated from.
Diaz was charged last Wednesday with rape, attempted rape, and endangering the welfare of a child.
He was being held under a $200,000 cash bond.
