On Wednesday night, a 13-year-old kid died while participating in a “awful” TikTok subway surfing challenge in Queens, according to cops and his mother.
The teen was found unconscious at the Forest Avenue subway station in Ridgewood at 10 p.m., according to the NYPD. Police said the child was subway surfing when he fell off the top of the M train.
Adolfo Sanabria Sorzano, a teenager, died at the site.
According to a GoFundMe page set up to cover the boy’s burial expenses, his mother stated that he was participating in the “awful” TikTok subway surfing challenge.
“Adolfo was a vibrant child with dreams and hopes, and his death has created a gap that cannot be filled. I humbly request that you assist us in saying farewell to him with the dignity that he deserves. “Any donation, large or small, will be greatly appreciated in these trying times,” the mother stated.
Last month, an 11-year-old child died during subway surfing after falling off the G train near the 4th Avenue-9th Street station in Brooklyn.
On Thursday morning, a 20-year-old man was hurt after falling off a train in the Bronx. The man was subway surfing and fell off the No. 5 train near the East 180th Street stop around 8:20 a.m., according to police.
He was struck by an unknown building before falling off the train, according to the NYPD. The man was brought to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
This year, police have increased their efforts to combat the harmful activity. According to amNewYork, there were 163 arrests for subway surfing in 2024, a 22% increase over the previous year.
