The brutal attack happened on School Street, a dead end street in the town of Baldwin, Long Island, just after midnight on October 20, 2023. DNA evidence linked Freddy Fermin, 38, to the crime.
In sworn court documents, police say that five men, including Freddy Fermin, circled a woman who was sitting in her car in front of her house. One of the guys is said to have pointed a gun at her through the windshield and then fired it.
Police say a bullet hit the car and “shattered the glass of the vehicle.” Around the frightened woman, pieces of glass hit her and cut her leg. Her blood then splashed around the car, causing “multiple lacerations” and “substantial pain.”
In the felony complaint, the cops say the woman was then “forced” out of her car with a gun and dragged into her house.
Police say that “defendant Fermin did zip-tie a male victim” who was inside the house with the help of the others. The guys “restrained both victims,” according to the police, while they took things of value from around the house. They found that the crimes that were reported that night were done with two guns.
Police say that an unknown amount of cash was also taken.
Criminal investigators carefully gathered information that could help them figure out who took part in the armed robbery that night. It paid off for them. Police say they got more than just camera footage and photos. They also got “a positive Division of Forensic Services Evidence Bureau report” with Fermin’s DNA on it. They said that his DNA was found on the crime scene proof.
Fermin was charged with 7 felonies, 5 of which were violent, when he was brought before Judge Vincent Muscarella this month. He said he wasn’t guilty of burglary, robbery, and illegal detention. A bail fee of $2.45 million was set by the judge. This far, that bail has not been paid.
Fermin goes back to court on October 30, 2024.
The four other suspects have not yet been caught, according to the police. The police did not say that the men could not be found.
