One person died and 23 were injured in a train disaster in New Jersey as a tree fell on the track

A tree that had fallen on the tracks was hit by a train in New Jersey on Monday morning. It killed one person and hurt 23 others.

Just after 6 a.m., the accident happened in Mansfield Township. A River Line commuter train going south from Trenton, the state capital, to Florence hit a tree just north of Roebling Station.

News video showed that the front window of the train was broken and that the object was still under the right side of the train.

It looks like other front-facing parts of the train got really hurt.

The train driver died in the accident. Out of the 42 people on board, 23 were taken to nearby hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The last 19 people were given the option of taking a bus to their final location, which usually takes 20 minutes to get to by train.

Between Florence and Trenton, the River Line service has been stopped in both ways, and a different service is being set up in its place.

The name of the train master has not been made public yet.

A report from News12 New Jersey says that roads in Burlington County have been stopped, including the southbound side of US 130.

The Independent has asked the people in charge of Burlington County for more details by email.

A shocked neighbor told Action News, “We’ve lived here for 40 years and we’ve never heard of an accident with the River Line.”

Another person said, “We heard all the ambulances and helicopters, so we came down to see what was going on. They told us that the River Line had derailed, which is sad, and that some people may be hurt or dead.”

In a Facebook post, the mayor of Mansfield Township, Marcial Mojena, said, “Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this terrible event.”
