Drought Returns to Northeast Iowa

Drought Returns to Northeast Iowa

Many of the local counties are experiencing drought once again.

According to the most recent report from the Iowa Drought Monitor, conditions of moderate drought have returned to around four and a half percent of the state, while the remaining portion of Iowa is rated as unusually dry.

The entirety of Clayton County and the majority of Fayette County, as well as the northernmost point of Dubuque County and the southernmost portions of Winneshiek and Allamakee Counties, are all experiencing moderate drought conditions.

In addition, five counties in the northeastern corner of the state of Iowa and little more than half of Fremont County, which is located in the southwest of the state, are deemed to be experiencing moderate drought.

As of Wednesday, the amount of precipitation that fell in Iowa was approximately four percent of what is typical for the month of September.

In Iowa, if the current dry weather continues, this month will be the second driest September ever recorded, according to the records that have been kept for weather statistics.

On Thursday, rain and storms were reported in certain regions of the state, and they are expected to continue this weekend and into the early part of the next week.
