KY3 Digital Extra: The future of Missouri EV charging network

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) — The program that Ameren Missouri runs to help companies set up EV charging stations still has about $700,000 left. The last day to send in an application is September 30.

The program splits the cost with people who want to put in EV charge stations in public places or in multifamily buildings.

Charge Ahead is open to most business users of Ameren. The most you can get is half of the total cost of installation.

But Ameren says, “Eligible customers can save up to 80% off project costs by combining these incentives with federal tax credits, such as the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit.”

They are also adding more stations across the state with money from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Becky Whitman, Business Development Manager at Ameren Missouri, says, “When we think about the future, we see a charging network that’s really built out along Missouri’s highway corridors.”

“Not only does it let Missourians drive electric vehicles (EVs) around the state, but it also lets tourists, like those who want to see the Lake of the Ozarks,”

A few weeks ago, Whitman and I talked on Fact Finders about the Missouri law that says city rules or requirements for EV charging stations can’t exist.

Once more, the new rule in Missouri doesn’t stop businesses from adding charging stations on their own.
