Teen arrested after threatening Twin Cities high school, police say

NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. — Police say a young boy made a violent threat against a high school in the north metro area on Sunday.

A message from Mounds View Public Schools said that Monday at Irondale High School, class went on as usual after the 15-year-old was arrested.

School officials said, “The investigation has found that there is no ongoing danger to our students or staff.” “While incidents like this naturally can cause concern, please know that the safety of our school community remains our top priority.”

People in charge of public safety in New Brighton said they would send the case to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.

Police arrested a 12-year-old girl last week and then let her go because she was accused of making threats against several St. Paul schools.

The police said she didn’t have “the means or the desire to carry out the threat.” Because of the threats, Community School of Excellence and Hope Community Academy were closed on Thursday.

As part of a national network of police that works with schools to find and stop threats, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has a team called SHIELD. Lt. Dennis Jahnke, who works with the team, said that kids who make threats could get in trouble with the law and with their school.
