Bangor — The Mega Millions drawing on Christmas Eve did not generate a jackpot winner, so the pot has swelled to a stunning $1.15 billion.
The chances of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are approximately one in 130 million—a tough shot, but slightly better than the chances of completing out a perfect March Madness bracket.
Since September, when a winning ticket was sold in Houston, there have been 30 straight drawings with no jackpot winners.
Winning large isn’t uncommon in Maine. Nearly two years ago, in January 2023, a ticket sold in Lebanon, Maine, won a record $1.35 billion.
Mainers are already imagining what they’d do if they hit the jackpot.
“First, I would stop working. Buy myself a big house, and probably take care of everybody I care about” Bangor resident Christopher O’Shea stated.
“I’d take enough to get me through the rest of my life, settle my family, and then do charity work with the rest,” according to John Babin.
“I would mostly give back to my mother,” Johnathan Nesmith stated. “To help her out cause she’s always helped us throughout my teenage years, so I feel like I’d give back to her and give her what she needs.”
The next drawing will be on Tuesday at 11 p.m. Maine residents can buy tickets until 9:50 p.m.
The Maine State Lottery offers winners one year to claim their prize.
