Maine Braces for Heavy Snow and Falling Temperatures Thursday Night Into Weekend

Caribou, ME – Residents in northern Maine are preparing for heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures as winter weather begins tonight and continues through the weekend. The National Weather Service anticipates up to 4 inches of snow overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning, with temperatures slowly falling throughout the week.

The National Weather Service predicts that snow will begin at 7 p.m. tonight and continue to accumulate into the early morning. By Thursday morning, driving conditions could turn hazardous, with slick roads and poor visibility, particularly on Route 1 and nearby highways. Drivers are encouraged to be cautious and leave additional time for their commutes.

Thursday’s high will be around 34°F, with a brief respite in snowfall before temperatures dip overnight. Low temperatures are forecast to drop to 8°F by Friday morning, ushering in a very cold weekend. Friday will be dry but chilly, with highs only reaching 19°F. Northeast winds may cause wind chills in the single digits.

More snow is expected late Friday night and Saturday morning, though snowfall quantities are uncertain. Saturday’s highs will struggle to rise above 20°F, and northerly winds may make outdoor activities more challenging.

By Sunday, clear skies and sunlight are predicted, but temperatures will stay low, with a high approaching 13°F and lows perhaps dropping below zero overnight.

Residents are urged to prepare for the cold and monitor forecasts for updated snowfall totals. In such low temperatures, proper precautions, such as layering clothing and limiting outdoor exposure, are important.
