Police are investigating a multi-victim homicide after a family, including three children, was discovered dead inside a Utah home.
An anonymous concerned family member contacted West Valley City Police on Monday night after being unable to reach their female relative, according to police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.
Police arrived to the house in a community approximately nine miles southwest of Salt Lake City, but did not enter because they did not see any evident signs of a crime.
But, when the woman in issue did not show up for work on Tuesday, a family member went to her house and entered through the garage.
The relative discovered a 17-year-old child with a gunshot wound and immediately called the police.
When cops entered the residence, they discovered the bodies of a 42-year-old man, a 38-year-old wife, an 11-year-old son, a nine-year-old girl, and a two-year-old girl, according to authorities. Police did not identify the family.
The 17-year-old youngster was rushed to the hospital, and his condition remains unknown.
“This is far beyond anything routine,” Vainuku explained. “There were four [homicides] in this city during the full year of 2024. This more than doubles the number. It’s just horrible. This is something that will undoubtedly weigh hard on the detectives in this case,” Vainuku said during a nighttime news conference.
Police believe the incident is “isolated to this house,” and that no suspects are at loose.
Because the 17-year-old guy is injured and in the hospital, interacting with him and obtaining any information is difficult, according to Vainuku.
The investigation is ongoing.
