It is true that the 2025 COLA will happen as of October 2024 (SSA). For SSI (Supplemental Security Income), the new Cost-of-Living Adjustment will start on December 31. For SSDI (disability payments), it will start on January 3, 8, 15, or 22.
Because of this 2025 COLA, SSDI payments will go up by 2.5%. It’s not as strong of a boost as it was in 2024, 2023, or 2022. Still, it’s better than getting a price cut or a smaller number. Social Security says that a total of 72.5 million Americans will do well because of this 2.5% increase.
SSDI payment amounts after the 2.5% COLA increase is confirmed
Benefits from SSDI might not be as high as those from retirement, which can be as much as $4,873. It costs about $1,539 to get SSDI. It will be about $1,577 after the COLA increase.
As a result, SSDI recipients will get a COLA raise of about 38 dollars, which is a little less than 40 dollars. It might be a little higher in December if usual payments go up.
Don’t forget that people who get SSDI may also get SSI. For a single person in 2024, the most they can get from an SSI check is $943. It will be $966 after the 2025 COLA rise, which is about $23 more per month.

You may get more or less in SSDI, depending on your work experience, salary, age when you file, and the amount of taxes you paid to Social Security. It could go up to $3,822 in 2024, so it will be more after COLA.
